Hello everyone. Over the next few weeks we will be featuring one of our Long-Term Foster dogs. These are the dogs that will never be put up for adoption and are in loving homes. Labradors in Need fund all the vet treatments for these dogs, until the time comes when the vet is no longer needed.
Our first Long Term Foster we are featuring is this gorgeous boy Harley.
We were contacted by another rescue who did not have the space for him and Labradors in Need jumped at the opportunity to help. He was not in the best condition and we honestly feared the outcome at the vet visit the following morning.
However, two years later he is still with us. Albeit on monthly medication and slowing down tremendously, but loving life and still smiling.
We would also like to take this opportunity to say thank you to Kerry and Sarah, plus their three fabulous kids for never giving up on him and keeping him safe. Here is Harley’s Story as written by Sarah and Kerry because Harley cannot hold a pen…
Hi my name’s Harley. I was in a loving home all my life with a lovely man who loved me to bits.
Unfortunately, he got poorly and tried his best to look after me but he struggled. So, I stopped getting walks and was resigned to the fact that I was getting older too. One day I woke up but my best friend didn’t. I waited and even at tea time he had still not woken up. I sat by his bed until some kind police men came with an ambulance, and a kind lady took me in a car to a big house with stairs.
When I arrived these two ladies who were there, looked at me with sadness but love and seemed to understand how I was feeling. I was confused, scared, itchy and hungry. I found out they were called Kerry and Sarah, and I also found out quickly that I really liked them. I have been here for nearly two years, and often hear them say I’m an old gentleman and they love me.
I am old now. My bones are stiff. I have trips to the vet for medication to make me pain free, so I can still play with my three human siblings. I love playing with them and I really love their cuddles, but not as much as fooooooood. Forget that I love them more than food.
I feel very spoilt even though I am slowing down, but my mummies help me a lot. Even when I have little wee accidents that I don’t know about.
I love my human family with all my lumps, bumps, bald patches and HEART. Xx
